Canadians fear IRA invasion

Newspaper article about Irish emigration leads to fears that Republican terrorists may soon over-run Canada

Ireland featured in today’s Globe and Mail in the shape of a fairly sober commentary piece about the numbers of people emigrating from our Sinking Island:

As the country thrived, it enjoyed a brief role reversal, attracting immigrants from around the world and high-tech giants such as Dell and Google. Now current woes have revived a belief that the grass is greener away from the Emerald Isle, leaving many among Ireland’s 4.5 million population pondering a future elsewhere.

Figures for the 12 months to April 2010 show about 65,300 people leaving Ireland over the last year — about half of whom were Irish citizens — the highest rate since 1989.

At the same time, the flow of foreigners into Ireland has dramatically dwindled — a turnaround from recent years, when the country was seen as a land of opportunity for people from new EU members such as Poland, and from as far afield as Asia and Africa. Immigration dropped from 57,300 between April 2008 and April 2009, to 30,800 over the following 12 months.

The article has led to a huge response online, with some Canucks declaring that the Harper government should stop the flow of Irish coming in before the IRA take over:

Excuse me… what about the fact that some are likely to be I.R.A. terrorists???

A couple of months ago Derr minister of immigration made a public statement about how some of the Tamil refugees were possibly terrorists posing as refugees, and you Harper supporters were all over it!!!

Now, we have people who might possibly be ex I.R.A. terrorists and none of people that care so much about “terrorism” even bats an eye.

Wow…Harperittes are such phonies!!!

Why don’t you just admit it??? You are a bunch of Northern Foundation Nazi’s. “Come on”, be man for once in your pitifull lives..

The xenophobia quickly moves to other races, with another poster stating that the Irish are more preferable to the huge numbers of Asians coming to Canada. Thank Jaysus we’re not the most hated minority in Canada, eh!
